Why should you consider astrology in your marketing campaigns?
First of all, I kind of lied just now. The planets and stars don’t make us do anything, really.
Instead, astrology is a language used to interpret symbolically what is happening right now in the world or in our personal lives. This language has been interpreted in many ways by many cultures, from India, Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Rome, and Persia, just to name a few.
Daily horoscopes giving a glimpse of your day were made popular in 1930 by astrologer R. H. Naylor but before that Galileo, Copernicus, and other early mathematicians and astronomers already studied astrology. Many of them also made a living by providing astrological readings. But, while nowadays astrology readings tend to focus on personality and psychology, influenced by astrologers such as Carl Jung (yes, that Jung, the psychologist) and Liz Greene, the classic astrologers studied mundane subjects, varying from political matters, war strategy, fertility, marriage, and how to manage crops and livestock.
Astrology is still used today to define specific days and hours in which to release news, launch music albums, and perform marriage ceremonies. For marketing professionals, it can predict which subjects would be more well-received and when an email could get more visibility.
