68% opens, 10%+ CTR: how a Tallinn business school sells its next course in the email that ends a training

Academy of Management Art carries on the Tallinn School of Managers, founded in 1984. It teaches management, negotiation and leadership, through online courses and trainings, and counts 50,000+ alumni. The school runs its email from one Selzy account.

The school writes to people who manage others, run a business or negotiate for a living. Selzy holds them in 84 lists: one for every course, training and stream, separate lists for alumni and for students with an account on the school’s learning platform, and cuts by country and domain zone. 18 saved segments sit on top, and custom fields carry each reader’s name into the email.

The school also runs a Telegram chatbot built in Selzy for new leads. It sends them eight lessons from the founder, one after another, and asks a few questions on the way: are they just starting out or already running a business, and how big is the company. The last message offers a course for 20 €. The bot takes a lead from the first lesson to a paid offer on its own and collects a profile of each lead along the way.

A new course goes to the school’s main list with the start date, the programme lecture by lecture and a video from the school founder himself. Selzy’s click map shows the video is the most clicked block in that email, ahead of the link to the course page. Everything about a training goes only to that training’s own list.

When a training ends, its participants get two emails in two days. The first asks them to check how their name is spelled on the learning platform, because the certificate prints it exactly that way. The second closes the training: the materials stay open for one more week, the certificate goes to everyone with 30+ points, and the next course starts on a set date. Alumni can pay up to 30% of it with accumulated points.

That closing email opens at 68% and gets a 10.6% CTR (counted against every delivered email, not only opened ones). Selzy’s click map puts 80% of those clicks on the next course’s page. The same course, announced to the main list the same week, got a 1.9% CTR. Across the whole account, opens run 15% to 25% month after month, and Selzy shows that next to its own benchmark for education, which puts the average at 10.8%. None of these emails drew a single spam complaint.

84 lists, 300K+ emails a year, one account. Any school can close one course by opening the next the same way, and every feature on this page is one a new Selzy user gets on day one.
