Lesson 21: How to Set Up Automated Email

Welcome back to Selzy’s Email Marketing 101 course! In today’s lesson, we’ll be discussing how to create an automatic welcome email for every new subscriber. It is a crucial step in building a strong email marketing strategy. It allows you to nurture your new subscribers and make sure they stay engaged with your brand.

Welcome email sequence can include several emails, not just one

You can include emails that introduce your brand, share your company’s story, and invite them to join your social media communities. You can also use this sequence to provide product recommendations, special discounts, or exclusive content for new subscribers.

If you choose to use Selzy, you should be able to create such a sequence in a matter of minutes. It offers quite a few ready-made email sequence templates, from a series of webinar notifications to the subject of today’s lesson, welcome emails for your subscribers.

Obviously, you can use Selzy to build your own welcome email sequence. You can make it short and simple, or long and more complicated. It’s up to you and what you think is going to work best for your business.

It might look complicated, but in reality, it’s fairly simple.

How to create your own welcome email sequence

Let’s break it down into more digestible parts. In the menu, choose Automation and click on the Create Chain button.

Then, click on the Chain From Scratch option. It’s the first one on the list.

Now, you need to choose what kind of event will trigger the entire email chain. Since we want to welcome new subscribers, pick the Add to list option. Then, pick one or more contact lists to set it up.

Once you do that, you will need to type in the email sequence title. Since we want to welcome every new subscriber, let’s go with Welcome email sequence.

Next, click on the plus sign in the middle of the screen and choose a new block: Action — Send Email.

Now, let’s choose the email that you’re going to send the email from and type in the subject of the email. It could be something like Welcome to our mailing list!

When it comes to the body of the email, click on the Emails button and choose the email you want to use. Just keep in mind that you will have to prepare it ahead of time. We’ve already gone over how it’s done in one of the previous lessons.

After you pick the right email, click on the green Add Block button.

Now, it’s time to add another block. Click on the plus sign and choose a new block: Action — Send Email. This time, it’s going to be a special discount code for new subscribers. Just pick the right template from the list, click on the green Add Block button, and you’re good to go!

Time for another block. Click on the plus sign, pick Email Activity — Read Analysis. Enter the name of the previous email and the waiting time. Since not all subscribers open the emails at once, it’s best to wait for a couple of days. We’ll go for three days.

Your chain is now divided into two branches depending on whether your subscriber reads the email with the discount code.

To make the entire chain work, you will need to add the Result block for each branch. The Yes branch is what happens if the subscriber reads your email. We’d say it’s a Success!

As for the No branch, it’s what happens if the subscriber doesn’t read your email. It’s not a favorable outcome, so we’re going to choose Fail.

And it’s done! Your very own welcome email chain.

What you should include in your welcome email

First, it’s essential to thank your new subscriber for signing up and welcome them to your community. Include a short message that tells them what they can expect from your brand. This will help set the tone and show them that you value their presence.

For instance, you could say, “Welcome to our community! We’re excited to have you join us.”

You can also use this email to introduce yourself and your brand, share your mission and values, and give a brief overview of what they can expect from being a part of your community.

Next, you’ll want to provide some value. This could be a free e-book, a discount code, or access to exclusive content. You want to make sure that your subscribers feel valued and appreciated.

Finally, it’s essential to include a call-to-action in every email. A CTA tells your subscriber what action they should take next. This could be signing up for a webinar, downloading a free resource, or checking out your newest product. Make sure that your CTAs are clear and concise so that your subscribers can easily understand them.

And voila, your first email of your welcome email sequence is almost good to go!

One thing to keep in mind when creating automated emails is to double-check your automations. It’s essential to make sure that all your emails are updated and accurate. You don’t want to send out outdated or irrelevant emails to your subscribers.

For example, during the pandemic, many companies forgot to turn off emails promoting in-person events.

Now that you know how to create an email sequence, let’s get to some more serious business – let’s talk about strategy! See you in the next module
